<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cost estimation method and system that allows a designer to estimate the cost of a product, such as an electronic device, starting with the design stage. SOLUTION: This is a product cost estimation method and system which estimate the cost of the product in response to the input of design-drawing identification data on a product. Corresponding to design-drawing identification data on the product, the system holds design information data, including the part types of parts specified on the design drawing and the process types (machining, assembly, and test) of the parts. The system also holds estimation conditions including part unit prices of the part types as well as the standard man-hours and the man-hour unit prices of the process types. In response to the input of design-drawing identification data on the product, the system adds up the part unit prices corresponding to part types included in the corresponding design information data for the number of required parts to calculate the total member cost, and the system also adds up the standard man-hours corresponding to the process types included in the corresponding design information data to calculate the total man-hours. The system then multiplies the calculated total man-hours by the man-hour unit price for conversion to the process cost.</p> |
