PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic switch for a starter capable of preventing installation failure and operational failure (sliding failure) of a return spring. SOLUTION: A cylindrical cover 20 is installed on a rod 18 having a movable contact point 5. The cover 20 is installed by engaging a projection 20b arranged on an inner peripheral surface of itself with a peripheral groove 18a recessed on an outer peripheral surface of the rod 18. A slit 20c extending in the shaft direction is arranged in this cover 20, and a tip part of the slit 20c is closed by an annular ring-shaped connecting part 20d. Thus, when installing the cover 20 on the rod 18, since the cover 20 can expand outside when the projection 20b runs on an outer diameter of the rod 18, the cover 20 can be easily installed, and when installing the return spring with an outer peripheral surface of the cover 20 as a guide, the return spring does not hitch on the slit 20c, and can be accurately installed.
