PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed type storage battery, whose inferior charge characteristics in a premature state of charge(PSOC), which has been considered as a drawback to lead storage batteries, can be substantially improved to make way for the sealed type storage battery to be used for a hybrid electric vehicle(HEV), which is expected to be in great demands in the future. SOLUTION: The sealed type lead storage battery, for which an electrolytic solution is limited to a certain amount, has a negative electrode having a plate consisting of an activator of a weight percentage of 100 with added substances comprising carbon of a weight percentage of 1 to 4, barium sulfate of 1 to 4, and lignin of 0.05 to 0.4, which is a free component that is not absorbed in carbon. The electrolytic solution for the storage battery consists of a dilute sulfuric acid to which a sulfate containing at least one of K, Ca, or Al is added in a weight percentage to the diluted sulfuric acid of 5 to 40 g/l.
