A portal covering such as a door 12 or window having a handle 14 that rotates as the door 12 or window rotates. The handle 14 is rotatably mounted within the portal covering. The handle 14 is coupled to a shaft 16 that is coupled to the portal covering via couplings 18. On an end of the shaft is a gear 20 that meshes with an adjacent gear 22. The adjacent bevel gear 22 is coupled to a second shaft 24 extending on a different axis from the first shaft 16. There is also a second, oppositely spaced bevel gear 28 positioned on the second shaft 24 opposite the first bevel gear 22. The second bevel gear 28 on the second shaft 24 couples with a fixed bevel gear 30 that is fixed to a door frame 34 or a window frame. As the covering 12 rotates with respect to the frame 34, the handle 14 rotates with the covering rotation allowing the user to always have contact with the handle 14 at all angles of rotation of the covering 12. |
