The system has a drive engine, a torque transfer system automatically operated by an actuator and a gearbox with at least two shiftable gears of different ratios, whereby at least one gear is provided for starting off. A starting off procedure in starting off gear is controlled by a controller using a starting off characteristic that is at least sometimes adapted to a starting off situation. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of operating a drive train and the use of a drive train for operating a motor vehicle.
