Matrix powder contains a hard material in powdered form. Part of the hard material is present in the form of spheroidal particles having a grain size of less than 500 mu m. Preferred Features: The spheroidal particles have a grain size of 20-250 mu m. 30-60 wt.% of the hard material particles lie in the region of 106-250 mu m and the remaining particles lie in the region of less than 106 mu m. The powder contains a metallic powder, preferably made from cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), tungsten (W), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and/or their alloys.
