<p>A honeycomb structural body for exhaust emission control and a honeycomb catalyst body for exhaust emission control, the honeycomb structural body for exhaust emission control characterized in that cell partition walls satisfy the requirement of the following expression (1) on material characteristics and cell structure, σ/E ≥ 0.0161 · α · (GSA)/{HD · (ρc · C · λc)0.5}...(1), (In the expression (1), σ is the strength of a material, E is the Young's modulus of the material, α is the coefficient of thermal expansion of honeycombs in the direction vertical to a once-through direction, which must be α ≥ 1, GSA is the geometrical surface area per honeycomb volume, H0 is the hydraulic diameter of honeycomb cells, ρC is the bulk density of honeycomb structure, C is the specific heat of the material, λC is the heat conductivity of honeycomb cells = λ · b/p (where λ is the heat conductivity of the material, b is the thickness of a rib, and p is a cell pitch), whereby the structural body can have a sufficient thermal shock resistance and be used for long period even if a material with a high thermal expansion and a low thermal shock resistance is used.</p> |
