The Lectern (1) has a support surface (2) for the reading material supported by carriers (3,4) in the form of a pair of vertical tubes (5,6), with microphones (9,10), e.g. directional microphones, incorporated in upper extensions of the carriers projecting above the support surface. The extensions of the carriers may also incorporate lamps (11,12) for illuminating the reading material on the support surface.
