Ceramic granulate and molding production involves (a) preparing a mixture containing silica, carbon (C) carrier (I) and/or inorganic molybdenum (Mo) compound (II), especially Mo disulfide; (b) pressing and optionally molding the mixture; (c) drying; and (d) firing under specific conditions. Ceramic granulate and molding production involves (a) preparing a mixture containing silica, carbon (C) carrier (I) and/or inorganic molybdenum (Mo) compound (II), especially Mo disulfide; (b) pressing and optionally molding the mixture; (c) drying; and (d) firing under conditions such that the C does not oxidize and/or (II) reacts with the other constituents, with simultaneous ceramic and/or chemical consolidation by sintering, so that (I) and/or (II) is embedded in a ceramic sintered matrix. Independent claims are also included for: (i) ceramic granulates and moldings produced by this process; (ii) friction or brake linings and refractory materials or products containing or made from these.
