Manipulation of bio-technical samples, involves using a robot (5) with a number of tools (2-4) to manipulate and/or work the samples. A coupling gives a mechanical link between the robot and at least one of the tools. A further coupling between the tools and their tool holders (6-8) gives the supplies to the samples e.g. reagents. The samples can be given a variety of actions for heating and/or cooling and/or mixing and/or shaking. A mobile microscope table (11), with a microscope (13) is moved by a central control unit (10).
