<p>The invention provides a medical device, in particular, an obste trical vacuum cup assembly coupled to a hand-held, venturi-propagated vacuum generator, such that the assembly or device may be maneuvred and a vacuum applied by a single hand of the physician. A canister or cartridge of compressed gas, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), or pressurized air flow typically available in hospitals is fluidly coupled for selective activation to the input of the venturi mechanism, while the output of the venturi mechanism is vented to the atmosphere. The hollow interior of the device is fluidly coupled to the throat of the venturi such that the flow of gas released from the charged canister or the pressurized air supply through the venturi mechanism results in the establishment of a vacuum within the device. The invention further provides a self-contained, hand-held vacuum-generating device utilizing a canister or cartridge of compressed gas and methods of utilizing the same.</p> |
