4-Benzylidenamino-1,2,4-triazine derivatives (I) and their salts and solvates are new. 4-Benzylidenamino-1,2,4-triazine derivatives of formula (I) and their salts and solvates are new; R<1>, R<2> = hydrogen, hydroxy, OR<6>, SR<6>, SOR<6>, SO2R<6>, halo or together form methylenedioxy; A = phenyl, pyridyl, 4- or 5-pyrimidyl, 3- or 4-pyridazyl or 2- or 3-pyrazinyl, all optionally substituted by R<3> and R<4>; R<3>, R<4> = R<6> or as defined for R<1> and R<2>; R<5> = hydrogen or 1-10C alkyl; R<6> = 1-10C alkyl, optionally substituted by 1-5 fluoro and/or chloro, 3-7C cycloalkyl, 5-10C alkylenecycloalkyl or 2-8C alkenyl; halo = fluoro, chloro, bromo or iodo. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method for the preparation of (I); and (2) intermediates of formula (III), excluding the compound where A = unsubstituted phenyl.
