The unit (11) has an arrangement for detecting and/or assessing the functionality of at least one electrical power supply unit. At least one electrical load (7,13) can be connected to the electrical power supply unit via the monitoring unit and at least one characteristic measurement parameter of the electrical power supply unit can be measured before, during and after connecting the load and compared and processed to determine functionality. An Independent claim is also included for a method of monitoring at least one electrical power supply unit in a motor vehicle.
