MULTI-WAY SET ASSOCIATIVE CACHE MEMORY AND METHOD FOR READING DATA

PURPOSE: A multi-way set associative cache memory and a method for reading the data are provided to decrease the power consumption for reading the data on the cache memory, to reduce a number of data lines, and to increase an operation speed of the cache memory by reducing the time to pass a reading path of a set selection signal. CONSTITUTION: A tag memory(604) stores a tag. A data memory(606) stores the data of the memory corresponding to the tag. A tag comparator(608) generates the set selection signal by comparing an address of the requested data with the tag. A plurality of sense amplifiers(702a-702m) outputs the data stored in the data memory(606) by becoming an enable state. The data memory(606) includes a decoder enabling one word line by decoding the address of the requested data. The sense amplifiers(702a-702m) are enabled by a sense amplifier enable signal and the sense amplifier enable signal is made by a logical multiplication of a read enable signal and the set selection signal.
