Holding-down device for holding down a stack (2) of sheet-like material, especially paper, preferably for arranging on a transport wagon (1) for the stack and/or especially in the region of a printing machine, comprises a height-adjustable holding arm (6) protruding horizontally with its free end and having in the region of its free end a contact element (8) which can be lowered onto the uppermost sheet of the material. The holding arm can be fixed and released in different height positions along a guide. The fixing of the holding arm is released using at least one releasing element extending over the entire length of the holding arm and operated by force from the direction of the stack. Preferred Features: The contact element is at least partly flexible against the restoring force from the direction of the stack.
