In a process to make fancy yarn, the raw yarn is slip- textured, dyed and then stretched. Following stretching, the thicker points (23) of the dyed yarn appear lighter than the open thread sections (22). Following stretching, the thicker points (23) of the dyed yarn appear lighter than the open thread sections (22). The yarn consists of lighter and darker sections of the same color. The lighter sections vary between white and the respective raw color with an irregular color pattern created by previous drawing through a slip- texturizer. An Independent claim is also included for a friction texturizing assembly to make raw yarn with a non- stable slip texturizing process applied to fine- filament polyester thread. The assembly has a first fixing zone with a heater unit (9) having soft discs (10) fabricated of polyurethane, rubber or similar to generate the thread twist. Vibration is generated in the threads by disc slippage. The discs rotate at between 2500 and 3500 r.p.m.. The polyester thread is dyed in a vat at between 125 and 135 deg C. The dyed yarn has a stretch rate of 10 - 40% and stabilizes at preferably 18- 30% for winding onto a bobbin and further processing. The process can be operated at two speeds.
