In a process to classify a non- woven textile e.g. a down- filled jacket, sleeping bag, cushion, the material is subjected to a defined mechanical- physical parameter for a given period, and the change is measured with time. The material is then classified in accordance with user requirements. The physical parameters measured include moisture transport as compared with user propensity for perspiration, blood pressure and time of year. Humidity transport is determined in a climatically- controlled chamber for 8 hr, using a 250 W heat source at 35 deg C, and 30 ml water or more. Further measured is heat retention for a period of 4 hr with a 250 W heat source at 35 deg C without an external source of humidity. The measurements are further classified in accordance with the type of seam, quilting and outer material. These measurements are made in association with progressive fatigue induced by mechanical load.
