The invention relates to a projection system for displaying images by front projection, comprising a projector (10) for producing the image to be displayed. A number of holographic-optical elements each having a diffraction grating (54) and a lens device (58) are placed in a projection plane (28) of a projection screen (12). In order to realize a front projection, the projection system additionally comprises a beam deflecting device (36) for deflecting the incident beams (18, 20) produced by the projector (10) toward the projection plane (28). In order to deflect the beams (18, 20), the beam deflecting device (36) has a supporting element (22) made of a transparent material.
