A lamp has a transparent lamp body with a wick located in a receptacle (4) open at the top. The lamp body (1) is made of a material with a high heat storage capacity, preferably of stone, compressed granulated material etc. or of a suitable plastics material. The receptacle (4) is only slightly larger in the floor region than the external extent or outer contour of the combustible material and has a depth of 30 to 60 mm.
