In a process to enhance the quality of a mudpack used in medical applications, the semi- liquid mud is especially thickened at the point of use by the addition of a dehydrating agent e.g. unslaked chalk. An alternative thickening agent is dry .barley grains. The mud and thickening agent are jointly introduced to a bath via a venturi jet, or mixed in a bath. During discharge from the bath, the mud and thickening agent are diluted in the bath drain with water.
