PORTABLE COMPUTER AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A portable computer and a method for controlling the same are provided to reduce a power consumption by storing at least one partial portion of data of a hard disk and a ROM driver in an auxiliary memory and cutting off power sources of each hardware device in the case that an electric power source supplying unit is a battery. CONSTITUTION: A hard disk(4) stores data of an execution file and an execution related file of an application program. A ROM driver(5) stores an application program. A power source supplying unit(8) supplies a power source by one out of a battery or an adapter. The first power source switching unit(6) and the second power source switching unit(7) control each power source line for connecting the hard disk(4) and the ROM driver(5) to the power source supplying unit(8). An auxiliary memory(1) temporarily stores execution data of the hard disk(4) and the ROM driver(5). A microcomputer checks whether the power source supplying unit(8) is a battery or an adapter. A bridge circuit(3) transmits a control signal to each hardware device and transmits data of the hard disk(4) and the ROM driver(5) to the auxiliary memory(1). In the case that the power source supplying unit(8) is a battery, a control unit(2) compares a size of the current execution file with a capacity of the auxiliary memory(1) when a power source quantity is less than a predetermined amount, and stores execution data of the hard disk(4) and the ROM driver(5) in the auxiliary memory(1) successively.
