PURPOSE: An apparatus is provided to compensate the backlash of a tape feeder when the rotating direction of a feeding gear changes by using a brake gear and a latch in a tape feeder which supplies a component to be mounted on a printed circuit board to a head. CONSTITUTION: A circle electric motor(10) generates a rotary force. A feeding gear(30) receives the rotary force generated by the circle electric motor(10) through a power transmission gear(20) and controls the conveying interval of a tape(T). The feeding gear(30) rotates in a forward/back direction and conveys a component to a pickup location of a head(100a). When a rotating direction of the feeding gear(30) changes, a latch(40) further rotates the feeding gear(30) in a direction prior to a rotation direction change of the feeding gear(30) and then stops the feeding gear(30). A controller(50) receives a rotating speed of the circle electric motor(10) and controls a rotation of the feeding gear(30). When the rotating direction of the feeding gear(30) changes, the controller(50) controls the component conveyance interval of the feeding gear(30) by using stored backlash compensating information.
