The process makes it possible to determine the air flow rate of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (1) and comprises the following steps: 1) the current consumed by the motor (12) of the fan (10) and the air flow rate is measured in a plurality of conditions in each of which at least one outlet of the unit (1) is closed by a different amount; 2) a value indicative of the average voltage supplied to the motor (12) of the fan (10), the value of the (average) current consumed by it, and the value of the corresponding air flow rate is stored for each of the said conditions; 3) phases 1) and 2) possibly being repeated by supplying the motor (12) of the fan (10) with an (average) voltage having a different value. <IMAGE>
