PURPOSE: To actualize an image display device which has high light use efficiency irrelevantly to the size of a spatial optical modulating element and can increase the uniformity of projected picture luminance. CONSTITUTION: The spatial optical modulating element 103 of the image projection device is arranged almost at the focus position of a lighting lens 102. Further, a light source 101 is arranged almost at the focus position of the lighting lens 102 and then the small-sized image projection device can be actualized.
