PURPOSE: A system and a method for searching a contents-based image are provided to improve reliability of searched images, reduce image searching time and easily measure weights with respect to characteristic values. CONSTITUTION: A contents-based image searching system includes a hue characteristic extractor(10) for extracting hue characteristics of an RGB hue model and an HSV hue model from input video data, a texture characteristic extractor(20) for extracting texture characteristic from the input video data using co-occurrence matrix, and a shape characteristic extractor(30) for extracting the directions of edges as shape characteristics from the input video data. The system further includes an integration unit(40) for integrating the characteristic values extracted by the hue characteristic extractor, texture characteristic extractor and shape characteristic extractor, and a characteristic value DB(50) for storing the integrated characteristic value.
