<p>A lock mechanism has a latch 12 biassed to extend from a housing and retractable by a handle acting via lever 30. A cam follower 84 carried on the lever 30 rides on a camming surface 34 which can be moved (eg by a key lock 44 or a thumb turn) between unlocked and locked positions. In the unlocked position (fig. 1) a portion 82 associated with the follower 84 is engaged by a shoulder 85 on a handle-driven member 80. In the locked position (fig. 2) the portion 82 cannot be engaged by the shoulder 85 and the handle is decoupled from the latch. A spring 86 biasses the portion 82 towards the cam surface and a stiff override spring 92 acts between the shoulder and the follower 84 to compensate for any off-centre relationship due to wear and to prevent jamming.</p> |
