PURPOSE: An impregnated cathode for a cathode ray tube is provided to reduce ion bombardment by preventing desorption of gases from electrodes, while suppressing desorption reaction by lowering the temperature for heating electrodes. CONSTITUTION: An impregnated cathode(5) comprises a control electrode(16), an accelerating electrode(17) and a focus electrode(18) formed at the front surface of a cathode, and a thin film layer(27) made of Mgo and formed on surfaces of the control electrode, accelerating electrode and the focus electrode, respectively. A thin film evaporating material is deposited into a predetermined thickness on the impregnated cathode and evaporated during activation process of the cathode, to thereby form the thin film layer on each surface of each electrode.
