In an apparatus and a method of producing a roll of bags, a bag feeding means (4, 4') is arranged to feed bags (5') one by one to a winding means (3, 3'). The winding means (3, 3') includes a rotating spindle (10) which is arranged to engage with each bag (5') separately to wind the bag (5') thereon, thereby building a roll of bags in which the bags (5') are unconnected to one another yet firmly held together. The winding means comprises at least two separate winding stations (3, 3'), each winding station being connected to a bag feeding means (4, 4'); and a switch means (2) which is arranged upstream of the bag feeding means to direct the bags (5') from one winding station to the other when a roll of bags has been completed in said one winding station. <IMAGE>
