1,024,848. Metal-vapour lamps. PATENTTREUHAND-GESELLSCHAFT FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLULAMPEN m.b.H. Aug. 14, 1963 [Aug. 22, 1962], No. 32113/63. Heading HID. The filling of a high pressure discharge lamp includes a scandium compound, e.g. the iodide, chloride, or sulphide. Thoriated tungsten electrodes 2 and 3 are mounted within the quartz or alumina envelope 1, the envelope material being extended around them to form sleeves 6 and 7. The electrodes are loaded, in operation, to an extent sufficient to render them molten at the roots of the arc, and cooling of the envelope is increased by the open-ended outer tube 8. The filling includes sodium iodide, mercury, mercury iodide, and argon. The envelope may alternatively be spherical in shape, and the discharge may be magnetically stabilized by surrounding the tube with a conductor wound in a helix and silvered to render it highly reflecting. Data relating to pressures, dimensions, electrode spacing, and loading, are given. The use of lanthanum iodide as a lamp filling is referred to. |
