PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the transfer of a band-shaped workpiece in a pressing machine, wherein the efficiency of press forming can be enhanced by simply and easily inching the band-shaped workpiece at a given pitch during inching of the band-shaped workpiece for the initial period of press forming. SOLUTION: Press forming is performed by transferring the band-shaped workpiece constantly at a given pitch appropriate for the width of a press die. The workpiece is controlled for inching for the initial period of press forming and, when the inching rate has reached the given pitch, inching is prohibitively controlled so that the workpiece is inched at the given pitch.
