PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear mechanism of a hand-operated wheelchair which can change gear swiftly transmitting driving force to a wheel with no gearshift lever operation, an inexpensive and light weight gearing mechanism of simple structure that can be utilized for a wheelchair, and a general-purpose gear mechanism which can be used comfortably with small operation noise as a daily life goods. SOLUTION: In a single planet gear transmission mechanism, a sun gear shaft 1 is fixed irrotationally to a wheelchair frame member. Traveling wheels 6 and a main hand rims for manually driving the traveling wheels are connected on either one of a career 4 which fixedly holds a planet gear set 3 around the sun axis 9 approximately asymmetrically and revolves around or an annular wheel 5 surrounding and in contact with the planet gear set 3, in a manner that they can be integrally rotated. A gear change hand rim 8 for manually driving the traveling wheels is connected to the rest in a manner that they can be integrally rotated. In the planet gearing mechanism system backlash is made to be zero automatically.
