PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently eliminate non-target droplets for impact position evaluation from among the discharged droplets and even when the droplets are discharged at high frequency, make it possible to make a precise evaluation of the impact position of the liquid droplets, and further, eliminate unnecessary ink droplets responsible for the deterioration of recording quality from among the discharged liquid droplets and thereby, realize high-quality recording. SOLUTION: The non-target liquid droplets for impact position evaluation among the ink liquid droplets discharged from a recording head 1 are irradiated with a laser beam, and thus vaporized. Consequently, only the target liquid droplets for impact position evaluation are selectively made to fall onto a glass substrate 5. In addition, the unnecessary ink liquid droplets 15 and 16 are irradiated with a laser beam and vaporized.
