PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium/high class electrolyte for prolonging the lifetime of an electrolytic capacitor in which drop rate of the specific conductivity is suppressed under high temperature while increasing the specific conductivity and the spark voltage. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for electroytic capacitor is produced by dissolving polycarboxylic acid (A) and/or its salt (B) into an organic polar solvent (C) wherein at least one carboxyl group is bonded to an aromatic ring through an alkylidene group. An electroytic capacitor using that electrolyte is also provided.
