PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase in the electric power consumption of a pulse width modulation system liquid crystal display device and to realize a further reduction in the power consumption of the device. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a liquid crystal panel having a plurality of common electrodes COM which are provided and extended in parallel along a first direction on one of pair of substrates sandwiching a liquid crystal layer and a plurality of segmented electrodes SEG which are provided and extended in parallel along a second direction that crosses with the first direction on the other substrate, a common driver which applies scannning signals to the electrodes COM and a segment driver which applies pulse width modulated data signal voltages corresponding to display data to each of the electrodes SEG. At the switching of the pulse width modulated data signal voltages being inputted to the electrodes SEG, the segment driver temporarily outputs voltages, that are approximately equal to the non-selecting voltages of the electrodes COM, to the segmented electrodes.
