PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device restrained from the rise of ambient temperature of the device. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with a DC power supply 1, a DC/DC converter part 2, an inverter part 3, a temperature detecting part 8 and a control means 10. The control part 10 is provided with a power limiting means for limiting lamp power according to an ambient temperature Ta when the ambient temperature Ta is a first set temperature Tw1 or higher, and a current limiting means for limiting a lamp current Ila according to the ambient temperature Ta when the ambient temperature Ta is a second set temperature Tw2 or higher. The second set temperature Tw2 is set higher than the first set temperature Tw1. The rise of the ambient temperature Ta can be suppressed, and furthermore, even if the ambient temperature Ta is the first set temperature Tw1 or higher, as long as it is lower than the second set temperature Tw2, a sufficient lamp current Ila is allowed to flow to the discharge lamp 5 to ensure the quick rising characteristic of light output. |
