The invention concerns a method for quantitative monitoring of a gas injected into a reservoir capable of chemically reacting with the injection medium. The method essentially consists in injecting into the reservoir a potentially reactive gas mixture to be quantified with a low proportion of a tracer gas whereof the chemical inertness is total and in determining the variation in course of time of the initial proportion of the reactive gas which could have disappeared by transformation, by measuring the variation of the tracer gas concentration in the mixture. Preferably, the tracer gas is selected from the family of rare gases and their isotopes, not likely to be contaminated by contact of the mixture with the injecting medium, and known to have physical properties such that as water solubility or diffusion coefficients, the closest possible to the injected gas. The invention is useful for monitoring evolution and transformation of a reactive gas such as carbon dioxide or methane, injected in an underground reservoir for instance.
|
