The invention concerns disaccharides of formula (I) derived from alpha -maltosyl fluoride, wherein R<1> and R<2> are such as defined in Claim 1. Said disaccharides are useful as glycosyl donors in transglycosylation reactions catalysed by glycoside-hydrolases or in transfer reactions catalysed by transglycosylases during the preparation of oligosaccharides or polysaccharides.
