PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, though the conventional seed layer is formed of an NiFeCr alloy containing Cr in an amount of <=40 at.%, a demand for further improvement of the surface wettability of the seed layer arises as the recording density increases and, in addition, when the NiFeCr seed layer is used, the surface smoothness of each layer formed on the seed layer becomes worse. SOLUTION: The seed layer 22 is formed of a Cr film in which the directions of crystal faces appearing on at least one crystal grain are directed in different directions from those of the same equivalent crystal faces appearing on another crystal grain. Consequently, the surface wettability of the seed layer 22 can be improved farther as compared with the conventional example and the unidirectional exchange bias magnetic field of a fixed magnetic layer 3 can be enlarged. In addition, the surface smoothness of each layer formed on the seed layer 22 can also be improved. |
