PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that realizes image pickup with high image quality where no problem due to overflow electric charges even in progressive reading while attaining image pickup with a wide dynamic range and sufficiently utilizing a transfer capacity at interlace reading. SOLUTION: Drive control of a CCD color imaging device 105 by a CCD driver 106 performs both the progressive reading that can individually and simultaneously transfer electric charges of all pixels corresponding to one frame and the interface reading that divides the electric charges of all the pixels corresponding to one frame into a plurality of fields and transfers them through a vertical transfer path so as to read all pixel information corresponding to one frame in a field sequential manner. A setting value of a substrate bias VSUB of the imaging device 105 is variably controlled corresponding to the switching of the scanning so that an overflow level of a charge storage section is larger in the interlace reading and smaller in the progressive reading.
