PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit and its image processing method that can properly discriminate whether image data with a particular pattern are color data or monochromatic data and conduct image processing desired by a user. SOLUTION: A trace pattern detection section 207 detects a trace pattern in image data. Further, a color pixel detection section 208 recognizes a color pixel in the image data. Then on the basis of number of pixels of the detected trace pattern and the recognized number of color pixels, an overall discrimination section 209 conducts color/monochromatic discrimination processing. In details, the overall discrimination section 209 compares a value resulting from subtracting the number of pixels of the tracing pattern from the number of color pixels in the image data with a threshold value to discriminate whether the image data are color data or a monochromatic data. Thus, the image processing unit disregards the tracing pattern part of the image data as to the image data in which the tracing pattern exists and discriminates color or monochromatic data from the part of the image data other than the tracing pattern. |
