A method of producing a thermo-stable biodegradable medium for storage of biological materials includes: a) preparing a mixture of at least one biopolymer at a concentration of 100-10% by weight of the mixture at a temperature of 5-40OC; the mixture is either a solid or a suspension; b) preparing a concentrate of the biological materials of 10-100% by weight; the concentrate is either a solid or a suspension; c) combining the mixture of step a) and the concentrate of step b) to form a second mix and d) agitating the second mixture at a temperature of 5-40oC to form a homogeneous suspension wherein a gel is formed. The biopolymer is xanthan gum, acacia gum, guar gum, gellan or starch. The biological material is a bio-inoculant, microorganism, biological cells or parts thereof, vaccine, pharmaceutical compound or composition, enzyme, hormone, protein, biochemical, biologically unstable composition, or a chemical composition. A liquid spray containing the medium prepared above is used to inoculate plant seed. The medium can also be added to an irrigation system.
