PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape cartridge which can surely prevent dropout of a magnetic tape, without lowering the durability. SOLUTION: The tape cartridge is equipped with a case body 2 which is composed of a couple of upper and lower cases 11 and 12 and has in the lower case 12 an insertion hole 12a for allowing the insertion of a drive shaft of a recording and reproducing device and a tape reel 3 which is composed of a cylindrical hub 15 and a pair of upper and lower flanges 16 and 17 and stored in the cartridge main body 2, while the hub 15 is wound with a tap; and the hub 15 has a center-line mean roughness Ra of its top surface prescribed to 0.005 to 0.04μm.
