PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the control method of the luminance of a plasma display panel capable of making the display gradation characteristic of a video, whose average luminance level is low, satisfactory while maintaining characteristics of high luminance and a low power consumption. SOLUTION: In power saving luminance control for changing the maximum luminance of one filed in accordance with the average luminance level of a video, the luminance of a sub-field giving the minimum luminance level is held at a fixed value regardless of the changing of the maximum luminance level of one field. As a result, even when luminance control such as to raising the maximum luminance of one field is performed in the video whose average luminance level is low, the gradation characteristic in a region, where luminance is low, is improved. |
