PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer end discriminating method and a recording medium reproducing device which enable discrimination of the end of data transfer in a small number of steps to reduce the load on the CPU. SOLUTION: In a compact disk layer 10, the CPU is constituted of a front end microcomputer 19 and a back end microcomputer 22, and the front end microcomputer 19 calculates the total number of frames from the start address to the end address of a musical piece inputted to an input part 21 by a user and adds one to the number of times of transfer execution at each transfer time of one frame and terminals data transfer, when the calculated total number of frames is equal to the number of times of transfer execution.
