PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracking error detection device which reduces the power consumption when performing phase difference tracking error detection using data interpolation dependent upon digital signal processing. SOLUTION: A switch 29a controlled by a switch control part 30 which is controlled by a system control circuit 31 of an optical disk reproducing system is so controlled that it may selectively use a read clock generated in a read channel part 20 or a frequency divided clock of the read clock, which is generated by a frequency divider 28a, as the operation clock in the tracking error detection device.
