PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily embed character information fitting a keyword for retrieval in a structured document in generating the structured document related with image data, a link, etc. SOLUTION: A means for extracting character information and its position information in reading image data with a scanner and a means for generating a structured document embedded as an attribute together with the position information by using the extracted character information as a keyword are provided, and the extracted character information is embedded in the structured document as attribute information to be structured. Accordingly, it is easy to retrieve a document obtained by structuring image data and to extract data because keyword information is extracted from the image data to be embedded in the structured document together with its position information.
