The motor vehicle roof covering the passenger compartment (2) consists of a fixed panel (11) and first and second sliding panels (12, 13). It has a system for moving the two sliding panels between deployed and retracted positions, including guides for rollers and threaded cables for drives. In the deployed position the panels are aligned and adjacent to one another, while in the retracted position they lie one above the other. The system also has locks to retain the sliding panels in their deployed positions.
