The invention concerns a closure head for a fuel tank filler neck for automatically opening a shutter (10) under the thrusting action of a fuel dispensing nozzle (22) on a device integrated in the top of the filler neck and the closure of said shutter (10) when the nozzle is removed. The shutter (10) is locked by a mechanism connected to the door of the body (1) so that the sealing joint (7) is locked and pressed down when the door (1) is closed and the opening of the latter cannot unlock the shutter (10) unless the nozzle (22) is inserted in the system. The invention also concerns a method for opening a filler neck head using said device.
