PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the function of a remote controller at the time of starting use without requiring any preset work. SOLUTION: A battery is set while pushing a specified key of a remote controller. When power is supplied, a control section detects a request for setting a function from the input state of key and a request signal is transmitted from a light emitting section. Upon receiving the request signal, an apparatus being controlled transmits a signal containing functional information to the remote controller. Upon receiving that signal, the control section detects the functional information and sets a function corresponding to the apparatus being controlled.
