PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus provided with a CMOS type imaging device that hardly causes a shake in a photographed image and has an excellent processing efficiency in an output signal of the imaging device. SOLUTION: In this imaging apparatus, the timing when a drive signal for instructing erasure of stored electric charges and a drive signal for instructing output of a signal denoting the stored electric charges are given is made variable by each pixel. The photoelectric conversion time of each pixel is decided according to the color characteristics of illumination light or an illuminance distribution on an imaging device depending on the state of an image forming optical system. Further, the drive sequence of pixels is decided separately from the layout sequence, and pixels in a range corresponding to a part illuminated by a flash light or a range corresponding to a major imaging object are driven nearly at the same time.
